Teraligen is a drug that contains an active ingridient Alimemazine (10-(2-Metyl-3-dimetylaminopropyl)phenotiazine). Alimemazine is a histamine H₁-receptor antagonist and neuroleptic agent. It is used as an antipruritic and also acts as a sedativehypnotic, and antiemetic for prevention of motion sickness.

Teraligen is marketed in Russian Federation as a treatment of anxiety disorders (including GAD), organic mood disorders, sleep disturbances, personality disorders accompanied by asthenia and depression, somatoform autonomic dysfunction and various neuroses.

 

Indications for use

As a sedative, anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) and an agent that improves falling asleep:

  • dementia (including dementia due to epilepsy), occurring with psychomotor agitation, affect of anxiety (as a part of combination therapy);
  • organic anxiety disorder (in the form of monotherapy or as a part of combination therapy);
  • schizophrenia (with a predominance of neurosis-like disorders, as a part of combination therapy);
  • mood disorders (affective disorders) - as a part of combination therapy;
  • generalized anxiety disorder (as a part of combination therapy);
  • obsessive-compulsive disorder (as a part of combination therapy);
  • reaction to severe stress and adaptation disorders (acute reaction to stress, post-traumatic stress disorder, unspecified reaction to severe stress, other reactions to severe stress) - as a part of combination therapy;
  • dissociative disorders (as a part of combination therapy);
  • somatoform disorders (somatized disorder, undifferentiated somatoform disorder, hypochondriac disorder, somatoform dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system, persistent somatoform pain disorder, unspecified somatoform disorder, other somatoform disorders) as a part of combination therapy for non-expressed anxiety therapy;
  • unspecified disorder of the autonomic (autonomous) nervous system, other disorders of the autonomic (autonomous) nervous system (as a part of combination therapy);
  • anorexia nervosa (as a part of combination therapy);
  • emotionally unstable personality disorder (impulsive and borderline types) - as a part of combination therapy;
  • hysterical personality disorder, anxious (evading, avoiding) personality disorder (as a part of combination therapy);
  • persistent personality change after experiencing a disaster (as a part of combination therapy);
  • hyperkinetic behavior disorder (as a part of combination therapy);
  • a behavior disorder limited by the family (as a part of combination therapy with the ineffectiveness of standard therapy);
  • unsocialized behavior disorder (in the form of monotherapy or as a part of combination therapy);
  • anxiety, agitation, and other symptoms and signs related to the emotional state (as a part of combination therapy);
  • other neurotic disorders (neurasthenia, unspecified neurotic disorder) - as a part of combination therapy;
  • insomnia of inorganic etiology (as a part of combination therapy);
  • emotional disorders (phobic anxiety disorder in childhood, social anxiety disorder in childhood, disorder due to sibling rivalry, other emotional disorders in childhood ) - as a part of combination therapy.

As an antiallergic agent:

  • itching, regardless of location and etiology (itching of the anus, vulvar itching, unspecified anogenital pruritus, pruritus with photocontact dermatitis and solar urticaria, dermatitis, eczema, urticaria, bites or stinging with non-toxic insects or other non-toxic arthropods, chickenpox, Chickenpox diabetes mellitus, shingles) in the form of monotherapy or as a part of combination therapy;
  • asthma, hay fever, pertussis (as a part of complex therapy as an antiallergic agent for stopping cough, shortness of breath and asthma attacks);
  • unspecified allergy (as monotherapy or as a part of combination therapy).


Dosage and administration

In adults:

  • To achieve a vegetative stabilizing effect: 15-60 mg per day.
  • To achieve the anxiolytic effect: 20-80 mg per day.
  • To achieve a sedative and / or a hypnotic effect: 5-10 mg once a day (20-30 minutes before bedtime).
  • For symptomatic treatment of allergic reactions: 10-40 mg per day.

In children from 7 years old:

  • To achieve the anxiolytic effect: 20-40 mg per day.
  • To achieve a sedative and / or hypnotic effect: 2.5-5 mg once a day  (20-30 minutes before bedtime).
  • For symptomatic treatment of allergic reactions: 5-20 mg per day.

Treatment course should be started with 2.5-5 mg in the evening and a gradual increase to the daily dose. The daily dose can be divided into 3-4 intakes.

The duration of treatment is from 2 to 6 months or more and is determined by the doctor.

The maximum dose for adults is 500 mg per day, for the elderly (over 60 years) - 200 mg per day.

 

Contraindications

  • hypersensitivity;
  • lactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption;
  • angle-closure glaucoma;
  • prostatic hyperplasia;
  • severe hepatic and / or renal failure;
  • parkinsonism;
  • myasthenia gravis;
  • Reye's syndrome;
  • simultaneous use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO);
  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • age below 7 years.

    Side effects

    Side effects are extremely rare and mild.

    From the nervous system: drowsiness, lethargy, fatigue (occur mainly in the first days of admission and rarely require drug withdrawal), paradoxical reaction (anxiety, agitation, nightmares, irritability); confusion, extrapyramidal disorders (hypokinesia, akathisia, tremor).

    On the part of the sensory organs: blurred visual perception (paresis of accommodation), noise or ringing in the ears.

    From the cardiovascular system: dizziness, decreased blood pressure (BP), tachycardia.

    From the digestive system: dry oral mucosa, atony of the gastrointestinal tract, constipation, decreased appetite.

    From the respiratory system: dry nose, pharynx, increased viscosity of bronchial secretions.

    From the urinary system: atony of the bladder, urinary retention.

    Other: allergic reactions, inhibition of bone marrow hematopoiesis, increased sweating, muscle relaxation, photosensitivity.
