Noben [Idebenone]

Noben (Idebenone) is a nootropic drug used to treat various neurological disorders. It is a synthetic derivative of Coenzyme Q10, an endogenous compound involved in mitochondrial energy production.

The drug was shown to improve cerebral blood flow and oxygen delivery to human brain. It improves metabolic processes; in particular, synthesis of glucose and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and lactate elimination. Also, idebenone slows down the process of lipid peroxidation and protects membranes of neurons and mitochondria from damage.

The pharmacological action of Idebenone is based on its antioxidant and neuroprotective properties. The drug protects cell membranes and mitochondria from oxidative damage, prevent excitotoxicity, and promote the generation of ATP.
